  • This position is located in the Cooperative Forestry and Tribal Relations (CF&TR) Staff, USDA Forest Service, Region 2, Regional Office in Golden, Colorado, and reports to the Director of CF&TR.

Duties:

  • Develops new or proposed plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines and makes recommendations on the need for new or modified policies regarding forestland management programs and policies. Provides leadership and oversight of landowner assistance activities that encourage the stewardship and conservation of non-industrial private forests.
  • Work requires coordination with other agencies to ensure cooperation and encourage partnerships in managing multi-use natural resources. Works with State Forestry Agencies and other partners to provide technical, educational, and planning assistance to private landowners through the Forest Stewardship Program.
  • Provides assistance in the implementation and evaluation of programs and projects. The work requires knowledge of concepts and applications of forest management and ecology; ability to apply that knowledge to manage and enhance the public benefits provided by forestlands, including timber, fish and wildlife habitat, water quality, wetlands, recreational resources, and aesthetic values; and the ability to address difficult resource management issues such as climate change adaptation, prevention of insect and disease damage, and wildfire risk mitigation.
