  • This position is located in the Literary Division, Registration and Recordation Program, Copyright Office.

    The position incumbent is responsible for examining claims, creating public records, and performing a variety of tasks to support the registration function. While performing daily activities, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring proper handling and security of all Library and Copyright Office materials.

    EVALUATION OF CANDIDATES:

    The Library of Congress evaluates applicants through an applicant questionnaire and a structured interview. Applicants may also be screened for some jobs through licensing, certification, and/or education requirements, a narrative/application review, and/or a preliminary telephone interview. Duties:

  • The Registration and Recordation Division is responsible for the examination, cataloging, issuance of the certificate, and dispatch preparation of deposit copies for all copyright claims, including renewals, corrections and amplifications to the public record, mask works, and vessel hull designs. Registration staff reviews deposit copies to select works for the Library¿s general and special collections. The staff examines applications for copyright registration and corresponds to clarify claims when necessary.
  • Performs a variety of tasks in examining, reviewing, and determining whether claims for copyright are registrable; creates public registration records.
  • Analyzes claims and determines whether they meet the legal and/or procedural requirements for registration. Conducts research to determine registrability of claims.
