If so, the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs, (OJP), Office of Chief Financial Officer is seeking a high performing individual to serve as a Supervisory Staff Accountant. The incumbent has full responsibility for providing leadership to and coordinating with all OJP Bureaus/Offices, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and other Federal agencies in the development, evaluation and implementation of account systems in support of grants management and cost accounting.

Duties:

  • Validates a variety of accounting data that is entered into schedules, accounts and reports. Analyzes and reconciles accounts. Makes adjustments as required. Analyzes cost accounting reports, status of fund reports, and other financial reports for the preparation of summary statements and reports and proposes solutions and alternatives to problem areas.
  • Evaluates accounting systems to determine the need for revisions or new automated and/or manual systems for DOJ OJP Programs. Ensures the resulting accounting system meets the needs of the user(s). Advises and provides technical consultation and guidance to DOJ OJP program personnel. Provides advice on matters related to program development, subsystem design, and new developments and techniques.
  • Prepares instructions and guidance in the implementation and operation of accounting systems. Prepares documentation outlining system description.
  • Supervises a group of employees performing work at the GS-13 and GS-14 levels. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.

    Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Provides advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff members. Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities.
  • Examines, interprets, and records accounting data, records, and reports pertaining to multiple accounts within one or more accounting systems or subsystems.
