    This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    This position is located in the Programming Unit of the Overseas Programming and Training Support of the Peace Corps. Specialists in the Programming Unit may have expertise in any of the following sectors: Agriculture, Community Economic Development, Education, Environment, Health, and Youth in Development. Program and Training Specialists provide a global perspective, share developing themes and trends, and collect and share research on innovative global trends in the disciplines in which they are focused. They support overseas offices in the design and implementation of projects, the development of project evaluation strategies for Peace Corps, and oversight, training, technical assistance, and development of the programming and training staff in the field.


Duties:

  • Plans, develops, and implements curriculum to train Peace Corps staff and Volunteers in the Community Economic Development sector. Assesses program or course curriculum, content, and instructional materials to coordinate the development of course products.
  • Designs and delivers courses, workshops, and other staff development activities to strengthen staff competencies in Community Economic Development. Designs needs assessments to determine content for workshops or courses for face to face or online events.
  • Oversees the development and revision of training materials, resources, and manuals for community economic development sector training packages for Volunteers (requires expertise in organizational development, business development, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and savings-led microfinance).

    Establishes and promotes an understanding of technical issues in Peace Corps for Community Economic Development programs.
  • Determines direction for standard agency approaches to Community Economic Development project design, implementation, and evaluation. Develops, improves, and tracks progress on Community Economic Development standard sector indicators. Creates or improves monitoring and evaluation tools for Volunteers working in Community Economic Development projects.
