This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Specialists in the Programming Unit may have expertise in any of the following sectors: Agriculture, Community Economic Development, Education, Environment, Health, and Youth in Development. Program and Training Specialists provide a global perspective, share developing themes and trends, and collect and share research on innovative global trends in the disciplines in which they are focused. They support overseas offices in the design and implementation of projects, the development of project evaluation strategies for Peace Corps, and oversight, training, technical assistance, and development of the programming and training staff in the field.

Plans, develops, and implements curriculum to train Peace Corps staff and Volunteers in the Community Economic Development sector. Assesses program or course curriculum, content, and instructional materials to coordinate the development of course products.
