Duties:

  • Evaluates new construction, alteration, and/or renovation projects for compliance with fire protection codes and standards.
  • This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of Safety, Fire and Environmental Programs, Fire Marshal Division. The incumbent is under the supervision of the Chief Fire Marshal and performs a variety of professional duties with respect to the review and analysis of, and acceptance of recommendations for, the design, construction and/or modification of fire protection systems, equipment, assemblies or buildings coming under the jurisdiction of the Architect of the Capitol. Participates with the technical and administrative functions or activities under the jurisdiction of the Fire Marshal.

    Analyzes large blocks of unknown or controversial data and provides expert technical advice and guidance on unique and complex problems and issues that arise in fire prevention and protection programs. Plans and conducts advanced technical work in areas where fire protection criteria is not established. Investigates fires and other life safety related incidents to determine actions required and the cause of the incident. Recommends corrective actions.

    Evaluates new construction, alteration, and/or renovation projects for compliance with fire protection codes and standards.
    Responds to critical incidents to provide on-site fire protection guidance on status of building and fire protection systems and evaluation of status of building safety.

    Makes field surveys of existing fire protection, mechanical or electrical installations on their own initiative and responsibility when required for a specific hazard or project. Performs field investigations, reviews preliminary design concepts, performs or reviews design calculations, reviews final working drawings, evaluates engineered products and performs construction supervision and coordination as required on each assigned project.
  • Identifies and resolves performance and specification compliance issues. Maintains Problem Reports through disposition.
