  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    The Chief of Programming and Training will provide guidance and support for Peace Corps' response to Health and HIV/AIDS in the countries that have Peace Corps programs, Peace Corps Volunteers and/or Peace Corps Response Volunteers. This role includes the involvement of the Peace Corps in all elements of the Global Health Initiative (GHI) which includes the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The incumbent will act as a programming and training advisor and lead a team of programming and training specialists to ensure that Peace Corps posts plan and implement technically sound health and HIV/AIDS programming and training. The Chief of the Programming and Training supervises a team of program specialists with expertise in the following disciplines/sectors: HIV Prevention, HIV Care, Treatment, and Support, Orphans and Vulnerable Children, and Public Health. OGHH specialists are advisors who have technical backgrounds and have experience with the Peace Corps. The position reports to the Director of the Office of Global Health and HIV.

Duties:

  • Performs surveys, studies, and evaluations to measure and improve program operations and results.
  • Provides post level advice and guidance, including interpretations, opinions, or decisions, regarding Peace Corps Volunteer-related programs or policies. Assesses program or policy conditions, service, or anomalies.
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts projects and studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of program or project operations.
  • Performs work related to developing and maintaining relationships with host country government officials, Embassy personnel, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
