    The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

    Applications may be reviewed to verify qualifications and eligibility prior to issuing lists to a selecting official.

    We expect to make a final job offer to selected candidates within 60-90 days after the issuance of the referral list.

    This is a primary law enforcement position under the provision of 5 USC 8336(c) (CSRS) and 8412(d) (FERS). Applicants must be under age 37. Applicants who are age 37 or over may subtract any of their prior federal service that is in approved primary/rigorous positions and that is creditable for retirement from their current age to meet this age requirement. Applicants must provide proof of this creditable service prior to appointment.

    The Maximum entry-age requirement is waved for veterans preference eligible applicants. In instances where the maximum entry-age is waved, the corresponding mandatory retirement age for these individuals will also be higher because it will be reached after 20 years of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) service for the entitlement to an immediate enhanced annuity.

Duties:

  • Performs work related to developing and maintaining relationships in various levels of government, private industry, and federal, state, and local agencies/organizations to communicate and disseminate information about agency law enforcement, regulatory compliance, and/or enforcement mission areas and activities.
  • Plans and conducts investigations relating to alleged or suspected violations of laws and regulations. Researches and analyzes information, determines actions to be taken, documents cases, formalizes reports, and/or makes recommendations.
  • Prepares for or participates in evidentiary hearings.
