  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps are normally for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Duties:

  • This position is located in the Office of Chief Information Officer, Office of Production, Operations and Infrastructure, Network Operations team. This position is a career ladder position at the FP4/3 level with responsibility for network operations across network platforms, with specialization on Cisco Unified Communications. . The main responsibility for this position is to deploy, manage, maintain, and support Cisco Unified Communications and Cisco Unified Communications Express systems. The ideal candidate should have in-depth understanding of Cisco voice networking environment and knowledge to perform the following duties: All administrative tasks on the UC system, Cisco Unity Connection, configurations of Cisco IP Phones, QoS, system backup and recovery, call-flow, configurations of auto-attendants, customization of features, voice mail management, and complex call handing. Daily duties for the ideal candidate includes resolving end-users requirements, administration of the agency's telecommunications systems which covers 8 locations within the United States, assist in resolving Voice over IP issues within the agency's 60+ international posts, as well as technical support for international posts with Cisco Unified Communications Express system. Collaborate with Agency's other departments as well as assisting other team members within the Network Engineering group. The ideal candidate should also have knowledge of general WAN and LAN administration, traditional telecommunication systems as well as Voice over IP technologies, willingness to learn and collaborate with others, understanding of project management and ability to work without close supervision. Familiarity of Networx portal and certification of Cisco CCNA Voice or CCNP preferred.

    Designs, develops and maintains one or more local area network (LAN) systems. Ensures that the systems are designed, maintained, and operated to meet local and national standards. Provides in-house technical expertise for the resolution of technical problems. Manages LAN resources.
  • Performs work involved with the acquisition, evaluation, support, and implementation of wide area network (WAN) systems and applications. Provides technical expertise needed to implement WANs including the design, documentation, debugging, and maintenance of the WAN. Works in accordance with agency Office of Information Resources Management (OIRM) regulations, policies, and directives.
  • Researches and/or analyzes information technology (IT) problems, issues, or program requirements relative to promoting products and services to agency mission area programs.
  • Identifies and analyzes telecommunications system requirements. Analyzes requirements for user communication needs. Plans, schedules, acquires, implements, installs, modifies, and tests both voice and data telecommunication lines as well as associated equipment and services.
