  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 30 months, but may be extended up to 5 years. Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Duties:

  • This position is located in the Office of Global Operations, the Director of the Office of Global Health and HIV/AIDS provides direction for the Peace Corps Office of Global Health and HIV/AIDS and oversees all related programs and initiatives for the agency. This position reports to the Associate Director for Global Operations and advises the agency Director and senior staff on all aspects of the agency's involvement in Global Health and its response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The Director is accountable for overall program direction in Global Health and HIV/AIDS as well as the agency¿¿¿s relationship with the State Department Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC). This position is also responsible for policy formulation on all matters related to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

    Assesses the economic impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing and/or proposed legislation, standards, regulations, and/or policies in order to develop, review, and/or approve high-level policies that have a broad impact on significant agency programs and/or mission areas.
  • Plans and manages broad, emerging, and/or critical agency programs or operations. Program-related activities include program strategic planning, capital planning and investment control, workforce planning, and resource management. Reviews and evaluates organizational activities and advises senior management regarding the accomplishments and evaluation of program goals.
  • Supervises a group of employees performing work at the FP-2 level. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.

    Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Provides advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff members. Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities.
