Duties:

    Operates garage sweeping and scrubbing vehicles by manipulating vehicle controls for smooth starting, stopping, and maneuvering. Drives and maneuvers vehicles and equipment in confined places, in narrow aisles, up and down ramps, and in low level clearance areas, maneuvering to avoid curbs, pillars, and other vehicles. Sweeps and cleans road dirt, gravel, carbon deposits, and debris from garage floors.

    Operates scrubbing vehicle to remove oil and gasoline spills, carbon monoxide film, and water spills or deposits from garage floors. Operates tractor in conjunction with scrubbing vehicles. Drives the tractor throughout scrubbed areas to remove water deposits by vacuuming water into a holding tank.

    Cleans and washes dirt and debris from brushes, squeegees, and all moving parts on sweeper, scrubber, and tractor. Cleans out dirty water and debris from collection tanks on the scrubbers and tractor.

    Performs general operator maintenance on vehicles, to include checking and replenishing oil, gasoline, and water levels. Checks tires, brushes, rubber squeegees, etc. Informs the supervisor if major adjustments or repairs are required.
  • Performs the duties of a Night Laborer as necessary. Carries out a variety of custodial duties that involve handling, moving, and controlling of heavy powered equipment and performing minor equipment maintenance. Plans and schedules work and time within certain general guidelines to maintain the assigned series of rooms in a clean and orderly fashion.

    Performs cleaning tasks such as vacuuming carpeting, emptying waste baskets and ash trays, cleaning glass on bookcases, dusting and polishing furniture and window sills, cleaning marble mantles, fireplaces, and cleaning baseboards and wash bowls, etc., by use of such equipment and materials as vacuum cleaners, push brooms, straw brooms, cleaning rags, mops and certain cleaning powders and solutions.

    Cleans a wide variety of surfaces including, for example: tile, sandstone, marble, bronze, concrete, stainless steel, glass, porcelain, plastic and wood with various solutions; and sweeps and mops corridors.

    Cleans statuary and sculptured ornamentation and columns with various solutions.

    Makes note of the items in the assigned set of offices which are not operating properly which require work orders for additional repair such as lights not turning on, damaged floor covering, electrical outlets not supplying power to equipment. Provides the list to the supervisor upon end of tour.
  • Performs manual tasks that require prior work experience or training and some degree of manual skill and very heavy physical effort. Assignments may include trash removal, snow removal, unloading trucks, and lifting and moving furniture, equipment, and supplies.

    Loads and unloads four wheel flat bed hand trucks. Uses two wheel hand trucks to relocate equipment such as file cabinets. Moves and rearranges furniture weighing more than 80 pounds in Committee rooms and offices as required for floor maintenance stripping and waxing operations.

    Positions trash trucks used to transport more than 80 pounds of trash on assigned floors. Moves the trash trucks to the baling machine as trucks are filled by the custodial force. Assists the baling machine operators by emptying the trash trucks in the baling machines. Cleans and stores the trash trucks in appropriate places at the end of tour. Picks up trash and delivers it to trash room, compactor, or recycling bins. As assigned, removes government-issued cans and trash from Committee rooms.
