Duties:

  • This position is located in the U.S. Botanic Garden, Public Programs Division. The incumbent assists in developing, installing and maintaining graphic information for a variety of internal and external uses including educational and other interpretive displays, digital materials and promotional information. The incumbent is the primary technician for visual and Web based information, including photo archives, and is responsible for providing innovative and creative options for communicating botanical information and other natural sciences to a variety of audiences.
  • The incumbent plans the visual aspects of graphics and visual materials for exhibits and other educational programs where the general format and specific themes to be illustrated are predetermined. Uses a variety of art media and determines details based on an understanding of the subject of the exhibit, program or publication. Uses creativity and innovation during the design process to present high quality interpretive materials. Monitors exhibition materials from design through installation to decommissioning. Recognizes and proactively deals with exhibit maintenance details. Safeguards the visual integrity of USBG iconography and graphic styles.

    Assists in the preparation of program publicity and marketing for print and electronic distribution. Drafts a variety of documents, including correspondence, memoranda, invoices, charts, graphs, promotional materials, meeting announcements, mailing lists, announcements, forms, presentations, social media, and other program-related materials. Assists in the development of promotional and registration materials to ensure effective communication of programs, seminars, and events.
  • Provides support and assistance in maintaining the organization's website(s). Tests new pages to ensure that formatting, optimum graphic display, and properly functioning links are consistent with relevant design and formatting standards. Advises content developers on webpage requirements. Reviews and introduces enhancements to web materials and website compatibility with other digital media including mobile technology and social media.
  • Completes special program requests related to visual information presentation and interpretation. Exchanges and develops information, resolves discrepancies, and makes recommendations about program-related materials. Collects and enters program information into electronic information systems, searches for and retrieves relevant data. Consolidates the information into presentation format.

    Provides support and assistance in planning, reviewing, and reporting data related to visual information of programs and projects. Maintains a system of program-specific data to track suspense dates on items such as project milestones, progress reports, funding accomplishments, compliance strategies, etc.
