  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    This position is located in one of the Offices within Volunteer Recruitment and Selection (VRS). The primary responsibility of the Administrative Officer (AO) is to manage the day-to-day administrative operations of the Office it supports. Administrative management work is primarily concerned with providing, securing or negotiating for the resources or services needed to manage and run an office. The major duties and responsibilities of the VRS AO include: Financial Management, HR Management, Property & Vehicle Fleet Management, Travel Oversight, Policy Interpretation, and a variety of other administrative duties. The AO reports to the Office Manager/Director and works closely with the VRS Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

Duties:

  • Manages administrative requirements for the organization's facilities, property, and supplies. Key aspects of facilities management include facilities security, safety management and mishap investigation, facility operational activities, and telecommunications and audiovisual support for the organization. Manages administrative aspects of office supplies, office property, and office moves in support of organizational program, projects, and/or missions.
  • Performs tasks related to the administrative management of an organization. This includes activities such as interpreting administrative policies, developing and implementing organizational policies, defining administrative requirements, and/or providing advice to management on related issues.
  • Provides administrative support and guidance for organizational budgeting and financial management activities. Provides advice to management and program personnel on budgetary and finance issues such as budget formulation, justification, and execution; financial management; and financial reporting.
  • Provides support and guidance for administering internal review, quality, and productivity initiatives for an organization.
  • Supervises a group of employees performing work at the GS-08 level. Provides administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit.

    Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Provides advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff members. Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities.
