Duties:

  • This position is located on a Forest Service Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center for the purpose of preparing, in a sanitary environment, a wide variety of food that is served either hot or cold for groups of varying sizes.
    The incumbent performs a wide variety of food processing and cooking tasks to prepare regular and special diet entrees. Some menu items require complex techniques or multiple preparation steps. Cooks food in large quantities, adjusting recipes for the required number of servings. Maintains the proper temperature for hot and cold foods. Plans the cooking process, and adapts preparation methods in relation to available equipment. Operates specialized equipment. Cleans, stores, and maintains kitchen utensils.
  • Handles and stores food in accordance with established sanitation procedures. Evaluates stock levels and assists in determining items to be ordered to support daily and monthly menus. Insures proper receipt of subsistence deliveries, and insures all foods are dated before storing in designated areas.
  • Maintains inventory of food items. Orders, receives, checks, and/or issues subsistence and non-subsistence items in accordance with established guidelines. Rotates stock to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
