Agency Marketing Statement:

  • This position is located in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Policy Office. BJA's mission is to provide leadership and services in grant administration and criminal justice policy development to support local, state, and tribal justice strategies to achieve safer communities. BJA supports programs and initiatives in the areas of law enforcement, adjudication, corrections, justice information sharing, behavioral health, and tribal justice. BJA's broad and complex criminal justice programs provide funds and technical assistance (TA) to reduce crime and recidivism, and the associated costs, and to improve criminal justice system functioning and outcomes. The incumbent will oversee BJA's Justice Reinvestment Initiative and Smart Probation Program and will serve as the senior policy advisor on community corrections. In this capacity the incumbent will lead policy, program planning and strategy development and execution with an emphasis on the use of research and data to inform decision-making. This position will oversee, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of BJA's investments in these two program areas and will be responsible for overseeing information and TA delivery to states/ tribes/local jurisdictions, and will develop and foster public/private partnerships. This position will also provide technical expertise to BJA leadership and coordinate projects with BJA's partner agencies.

Duties:

  • Manages and/or directs quality improvement programs. Performs work related to monitoring quality programs, plans, procedures, and methodologies; and/or analyzing quality initiatives and processes.
  • Performs work related to developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders in various levels of government, private industry, and/or academic institutions to communicate and disseminate information about program mission and activities.
  • Evaluates work processes and makes recommendations for effective organizational changes. Conducts fact-finding and investigations into effective and efficient ways of managing an organization's work functions. Reviews internal processes and procedures, making recommendations for improvements to promote efficiency, effectiveness, and cost savings.
  • Directs, manages, and/or evaluates programs to provide recommendations for effective organizational changes in light of factors such as the use of fund options related to organizational changes. Prepares documents pertaining to positions and organizational structures.
