Duties:

  • This position is located in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Policy Office, Corrections, Reentry and Justice Reform Team. BJA's broad and complex criminal justice grant programs, which are nationwide in scope, provide funds, training, and technical assistance (TTA) to state, tribal, and local criminal justice agencies and stakeholders.

    The Policy Office provides national leadership in criminal justice grant programs, training, and technical assistance. The incumbent will serve as Policy Advisor in corrections, reentry and justice reform programs. Serves as a technical expert in the administration of a wide variety of complex corrections and reentry programs and related grants, cooperative agreements, and/or contracts related to corrections and reentry program areas. Negotiates technical aspects of corrections and reentry programs including with regard to federal grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, and inter-agency agreements to ensure the greatest potential for success and impact of vital programs. Monitors overall performance of corrections and reentry program grantees related to adherence to research-based principles, fidelity to an articulated model, and success in implementation. Maintains contact with training and technical assistance providers and periodic contact with site-based grantees to stay current with their progress and implementation efforts, needs, and problems associated with corrections, and reentry program delays.
  • Provides advice and guidance to resolve, implement, or manage program issues that involve major areas of uncertainty in approach or methodology in the corrections and reentry program areas. Makes recommendations related to corrections and reentry program planning and implementation in connection with prospective changes in functions in the corrections and reentry program areas.
  • Serves as a technical expert in the administration of a wide variety of complex corrections and reentry issues and strategies to inform the development and management of grants and/or cooperative agreements. Provides guidance and recommendations on corrections and reentry related initiatives. Develops and maintains effective relationships with national, state, tribal, and local experts, administrators, high-level officials, policy makers, and planners in corrections and reentry areas. Serves as a BJA representative on interagency task forces focusing on corrections and reentry programs whose members may include high-level DOJ officials and other executive branch representatives.
  • Researches and prepares a variety of written materials related to administrative or program work, such as researching program trends and preparing correspondence, memoranda, white papers, or other documents relevant to program activities.
