  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 30 months, but may be extended up to 5 years. Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Duties:

  • This position is located in the Office of Volunteer Recruitment and Selection's Placement Office. The Placement Office is responsible for: a) the central coordination of the Peace Corps Volunteer Delivery System; b) evaluation and selection of Peace Corps applicants; c) issuance of invitations to training; d) projection of fill rates for Peace Corps programs and monitoring of same; e) identification of skills both needed and available to perform specific Volunteer assignments and f) preparation of major recruitment documents for nationwide use by the Office of Recruitment.
  • The incumbent serves as a Placement Officer for one or more designated skills desks/sectors (e.g. agriculture, environment, health, education, etc) to assess applications for Peace Corps service: evaluating applicants' skills, experience, suitability to serve and making decisions to invite applicants to specific country programs or to reject them. S/he establishes rapport with applicants to counsel them about Peace Corps service and resolve any issues regarding qualifications. Reviews country project plans and requests for Volunteers advising on skill requirements and availability of qualified applicants. Requests appropriate applications from recruitment in sufficient numbers to fill training classes with qualified applicants possessing skills requested by countries.
  • Develops cooperative working relationships with the regions, Office of Medical Services, Regional Recruitment Offices, and the Division of Marketing.
