Duties:

  • This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of Inspector General (OIG). The incumbent is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance and for conducting criminal investigative case work.

    Specifically, work includes addressing criminal, civil, and administrative investigations, audits, evaluations, operations reviews, legislation, regulations, Agency and OIG policies and procedures and complaints as well as Congressional and public inquiries. The incumbent will interact with high-level Agency officials on policies, programs or functions including Federal, state or local authorities and other prosecuting and law enforcement authorities.

    The incumbent reviews work products of OIG staff engaged in audits, evaluations and investigations to ensure accurate presentation of facts; legal sufficiency of documents and reports; and legal soundness of findings, advice and recommendations. Also serves as an advisor to the Inspector General providing advice and input on policy, personnel and ethics matters affecting the OIG staff.

  • The incumbent presents investigative findings to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution and civil enforcement. Conducts investigations that require an expert level of planning and coordination for very complex investigations in terms of structure and coordination requirements. Analyzes, plans, and evaluates programs that impact multiple organizations, that are of significant interest to the public, and/or affect large numbers of people.

    Serves as Criminal Investigator performing a variety of investigative assignments including surveillance, documentation, case development and presentation.

    Prepares investigative reports, with responsibility for presenting necessary aspects of investigation in sufficient detail and accuracy to aid in supporting possible prosecution and/or administrative action.
