Duties:

  • As an advanced trainee, increases knowledge, skills, and abilities in the profession. As part of planned career development, works with and assists senior members of the staff in the performance of analytical/scientific/engineering/architectural/planning assignments.

    Plans and conducts projects according to clear and specified objectives. The work is carried out in accordance with approaches that have been structured by others. Develops technical data regarding materials, sizes, dimensions, and quantities and costs to be incorporated in formal specifications. Provides routine suggestions to resolve minor problems. Suggestions are consistent with the design specifications, basic principles, and standards of the profession, and any contractual obligations between the contractor and the Government.

    Drafts condition assessments of facilities and structures to determine compliance with existing standards, codes, regulations and requirements. Performs engineering site evaluations of potential safety and/or health deficiencies for review by a senior engineer/architect. Participates in field surveys and investigations of existing grounds, facilities and/or utility systems to ensure that maintenance and repair schedules and procedures conform to specifications.

    Works with higher-grade Architects and General Engineers or other specialists and assists with specific/selected phases of the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and projects, including communicating issues and coordinating activities within the office. Analyzes assigned architectural/engineering issues in accordance with instructions and participates in the preparation of project documentation, including concept papers, project authorizations, and project amendments, in line with Agency regulations and specific guidance. Participates in workshops, seminars, and conferences related to work-in-progress.

    Assists in planning and conducts facility management and maintenance projects according to clear and specified objectives. Assists in conducting periodic inspections of facilities or structures to ensure they are built according to the original construction standards. Reviews design construction or reconstruction designs of physical improvements such as water systems, electrical systems, and structural systems. Inspects projects constructed by permittees to ensure compliance with permitted design and specifications. Submits reports, findings and/or recommendations to Supervisor.

    Assists in conducting studies to develop improved processes and methods. Explores background information, i.e., literature, reports, and discussions with others having specialized knowledge of the issues, and consults with the supervisor in evaluating information and selecting approaches to study the architectural issues.

    Reviews and monitors contractor activities in the day-to-day performance of the contract.
