  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 30 months, but may be extended up to 5 years. Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    This position is located in Peace Corps' Office of Volunteer Recruitment and Selection, Office of Recruitment, within the jurisdiction of the regional recruitment office (RRO). The incumbent in this position serves as the Public Affairs Specialist (PAS) providing marketing, advertising, and public affairs support to the regional recruitment office.


Duties:

  • The incumbent provides marketing, advertising and public affairs support to the Regional Recruitment Office. S/he participates in the development of a strategic communications and marketing strategy designed to generate specific recruitment leads. S/he develops and manages the Regional Recruitment Office (RRO) communications budget. Assists recruiters in developing recruitment campaign plans and strategies by researching media markets and recommending media/marketing techniques. The incumbent is responsible for the RRO advertising program including writing, designing and negotiating the placement of advertising.
  • Establishes and maintains key points of contact with the media and other organizations. Functions as a liaison with the Office of Communications and the Office of Press Relations assisting in the dissemination of national public service announcements and coordinating media appearances.
  • Writes news releases and develops and pitches article and feature stories to local media. Participates in the planning and implementation of community relations activities and special events.
