ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must have one year of specialized experience as a manager working with an international volunteer agency, with an thorough understanding of volunteer support issues and risk management experience in a complex multi-cultural environment.
MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Grade 5:
Qualifying experience for the FP-05 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the FP-07 or GS-7 level, which is in or directly related to safety and occupational health, and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: (1) Recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. (2) Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. (3) Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. (4) Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: The experience requirement for the FP-05 level may be met by two (2) full academic years of graduate level education, or completion of all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree, with major study in safety, occupational health, or industrial hygiene, or any field that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester/36 quarter hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.
Grade 4:
Qualifying experience for the FP-4 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the FP-05 or GS-9 level, which is in or directly related to safety and occupational health, and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.Qualifying experience for the GS-12 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-11, which is in or directly related to safety and occupational health, and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include: (1) Managing safety or occupational health program elements. (2) Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy. (3) Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. (4) Developing safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. (5) Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. (6) Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. (7) Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. (8) Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. (9) Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. (10) Work in occupational fields such as industrial hygienist, safety engineer, fire prevention engineer, health physicist, and occupational health nurse.
Grade 3:
Qualifying experience for the FP-03 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the FP-04 or GS-11 level which is in or directly related to safety and occupational health, and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
