  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps are normally for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicants successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Duties:

  • Introductory Statement: This position is located in the Office of Management/Office of Human Resources (HRM) at Peace Corps headquarters, Washington, D.C.
    This position will serve as front desk receptionist providing excellent customer service to employees and visitors and performs other administrative functions.


    Serves as front office receptionist receiving telephone calls, visitors, email and requests for materials and information.
    Screens all calls and visitors requests and routes to the appropriate staff or responds directly based on knowledge of agency programs, policies and activities.
    Resolve customer service problems. Provides support services and carries out special projects which improve and contribute to the HRM office.
    Assists customers with other basic customer services.
    Performs a variety of administrative office tasks in support of the office.
    Assists with scheduling meetings, conference rooms and updating departmental activity calendar. Maintain and updates filing, supplies, inventory, mailing and data base systems.
    Ensures office is equipped with the required office supplies.
    Maintain and update general office files. Logs incoming personnel actions using automated tracking system.
    Prepares memorandum and correspondence. Proofread and edit correspondence and reports for omissions and consistencies.
    Prepares documents for signature and obtain signatures needed for proper submission of forms and reports and supplies.
    Assigns and monitors office communications for the office and support staff.
    Maintains control logs for incoming correspondence and follows up to ensure timely completion and proper execution of all required policies and procedures.
    Serves as focal point for systems to track office assignments to ensure timely reply or actions, and to ensure that deadlines are met.
    Evaluates and advises on procedures for providing office administrative support. Recommends changes in administrative practices and services as the source of information on administrative procedures.
    Provides the manager or supervisor with the necessary information needed to make decisions on the administrative aspects of the organization operations and management.
    Tracks specific documents or assignments to ensure timely completion of actions or that deadlines are met.
    Recommends and develops new or revised methods and procedures for office control and administrative support systems, such as correspondence control systems.
    Provides guidance to staff members on matters related to administrative policies and procedures.
    Establishes internal office procedures to respond to a variety of administrative requirements, such as correspondence control.
    Oversees the administrative operations in the office and ensures effective and efficient flow of correspondence and technical work.
