MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Grade 11:


Qualifying experience for the GS-11 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to GS-9 which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience to qualify for the GS-11 include: (1) Writing and developing blog posts, newsletters, reports, collateral materials, articles, and web content; (2) Contributing to digital media communication plans using established approaches and techniques known to be successful for the intended audience; AND/OR (3) Developing social media sites to support an organization's web presence and platform (e.g. Facebook Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube).


SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Experience requirements at the GS-11 level may be met by three (3) full academic years of graduate level education or the successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.


COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet the experience requirements.


Grade 12:


Qualifying experience for the GS-12 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-11 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Duties:

  • Serves as an advisor to agency management on public affairs and digital media activities/programs. Makes recommendations regarding the dissemination of information to correct misperceptions and enhance public understanding of OJP's mission. Plans and evaluates OJP's public affairs programs related to digital media content and dissemination, including: victim service program funding, juvenile justice efforts, sex offender management, and vital research and data. Monitors digital media trends, tracks data, and provides information on ways for OJP to enhance its digital media presence. Applies knowledge of computer-based information systems, internet applications, and technologies to plan, design, and evaluate web sites and pages.
  • Develops and coordinates organizational messages and digital media content with the appropriate team members, management, component communication liaisons, external stakeholders, and agency leadership to ensure quality, consistency and message alignment while protecting the reputation and public perception of the Department of Justice. Makes recommendations to senior leaders on web-based strategies and tactics to inform the general public and Congress concerning OJP's mission, accomplishments, and needs.
  • Manages, plans, and produces digital media content, such as social media posts, photographs, and graphics to enhance website and social media engagement. Reviews and edits digital media to ensure content, grammar, and/or punctuation follow prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines for the appropriate digital platform. Uses analogies, visuals, and other techniques to tailor information to specific audiences.

    Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with national and international media representatives and stakeholder communication professionals. Researches audience reactions and experience, and information needs, represents the voices of diverse audiences and communities, reports on user trends and recommends new communication features and improvements. Handles queries from the news media, other government agencies, community organizations and the public about OJP activities that could significantly affect public view of OJP, or prompt Congressional action.
