The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. If you're looking for a job where you can analyze budgetary and economic effects of public policies, provide nonpartisan, objective analysis, support the Congress, and work with some of the brightest minds in policy analysis, CBO just might be the right place for you.

Duties:

  • CBOs Tax Analysis Division is seeking an applied microeconomist with strong modeling skills to conduct research and analysis on a broad range of tax policy issues. The Tax Analysis Division is responsible for providing the Congress with analysis and evaluation of the effects of past and proposed changes to federal tax and transfer policies. It is also responsible for forecasting federal revenues as part of CBOs baseline budget projections. The analyst will conduct empirical research on a variety of federal policy issues and will help to add new capabilities to CBOs individual income tax simulation model. The analyst will also write reports for the Congress on the economic and budgetary effects of federal policies. Those reports may require the analyst to conduct empirical research, undertake analysis of potential policy changes, or develop quantitative models to use in those efforts. The position requires facility with quantitative work, including economic modeling, and it involves regular contact with staff members in the legislative and executive branches. CBOs analysts are encouraged to participate in the policy research community by presenting papers at conferences, publishing articles in professional journals, and circulating preliminary research in CBOs working paper series.
