  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps are normally for 60 months (5 years). Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant's successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Duties:

  • This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) and reports to the Financial Systems Oracle Applications Manager. The major duties of the IT Specialist position are split between database administration (75%) and applications programming (25%). The employee will provide database administration for Oracle databases running on a Linux operating system, and applications programming support for Peace Corps financial applications, which include Oracle E-Business Suite and HRMS, Hyperion, Compusearch Prism, and custom applications.

    Manages, administers, and ensures security, maintenance, and operations of database systems. Develops, selects, and/or maintains databases to obtain greater efficiency in computer performance and processes. Determines organization of data in the database and assign names and definitions to the various records and fields. Oversees the security system to ensure controlled access to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the data in the database.

    Maintains functional knowledge of the data itself. Manipulates and maintains the data as necessary to meet user and system requirements. Creates and loads data for development, testing, and production. Extracts, transfers, and loads data as necessary to maintain the system and interface to other systems. Improves data quality through the implementation of data codification, data cleansing, and data filtering.
  • Performs work involving the analysis, design, documentation, development, modification, testing, installation, implementation, and support of new or existing applications software. Participates in implementing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software or developing customized applications. Prepares inputs, outputs, flow diagrams, decision logic tables, and linkages with other application systems.
