Agency Marketing Statement:

  • The Bureau of Justice Assistance provides innovative leadership to state, local and tribal justice systems, by disseminating state-of-the art knowledge and practices across America, providing grants for the implementation of crime fighting strategies. BJA works in partnership with the justice community to identify the most pressing crime-related challenges confronting the justice system and provide information, training, coordination, and innovative strategies for addressing these challenges.

Duties:

  • Plans, coordinates and oversees implementation and assessment of assigned national level criminal justice policy initiatives. Oversees BJA's role in disseminating training, technical assistance, and direct grant funding related to forensic services. Analyzes and evaluates, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of programs or operations in meeting established goals, measures, and objectives, recommending ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of policy or program strategies.
  • Provides advice and guidance, including interpretations, opinions, or decisions, regarding programs or policies. Provides advice and guidance on criminal justice topics related to the delivery of forensic services and the use of forensic evidence in criminal justice practice throughout all stages of the criminal justice system. Assesses stakeholder needs, legislative requirements, and current data and research. Consultations involve assessment of program or policy conditions, phenomena, or anomalies.
