KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


Ability to plan and execute work.

Knowledge of and experience using the principles and methods of research based, data driven forensic science lab or sevices management.

Ability to collaborate on technical work in the area of forensic science.

Ability to communicate effectively other than in writing.

Ability to communicate in writing.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


I have experience developing and implementing forensic science policy related to the use and delivery of forensic services within a criminal justice system or related to the function and practice of a forensic science laboratory.


MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Grade 14:


Qualifying experience for the GS-14 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-13 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: Developed plans or objectives for an agency forensic sciences effort; prepares papers, reports, etc., related to forensic sciences; or established or managed an organizational analysis program for forensic sciences.

  • The Bureau of Justice Assistance provides innovative leadership to state, local and tribal justice systems, by disseminating state-of-the art knowledge and practices across America, providing grants for the implementation of crime fighting strategies. BJA works in partnership with the justice community to identify the most pressing crime-related challenges confronting the justice system and provide information, training, coordination, and innovative strategies for addressing these challenges.

Duties:

  • Plans, coordinates and oversees implementation and assessment of assigned national level criminal justice policy initiatives. Oversees BJA's role in disseminating training, technical assistance, and direct grant funding related to forensic services. Analyzes and evaluates, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of programs or operations in meeting established goals, measures, and objectives, recommending ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of policy or program strategies.
  • Provides advice and guidance, including interpretations, opinions, or decisions, regarding programs or policies. Provides advice and guidance on criminal justice topics related to the delivery of forensic services and the use of forensic evidence in criminal justice practice throughout all stages of the criminal justice system. Assesses stakeholder needs, legislative requirements, and current data and research. Consultations involve assessment of program or policy conditions, phenomena, or anomalies.
