Duties:
The Presidio is seeking an experienced journey-level Heavy Mobile Equipment Operator. The Presidio, formerly a 1,491-acre Army base, is now a new kind of national park. The park offers unique recreation, hospitality, and educational opportunities, and is home to thousands of residential and non-residential tenants. The Public Safety & Municipal Services Division maintains the important infrastructure necessary to sustain the equivalent of a small city, including fire protection, utilities, water treatment, roads, grounds, and forestry. The Public Safety & Municipal Services Divisions Roads and Trails Maintenance crew safely operates a variety of heavy equipment to maintain trails, road beds, road shoulders and ditches throughout the Presidio.
Our ideal candidate is highly skilled in operating heavy equipment with a high degree of dexterity, and brings comprehensive knowledge of roads, trails and grounds work practices. You possess excellent customer service and communication skills and interact positively with the Presidio community, including colleagues, tenants, and visitors.

Responsibilities Drive gasoline or diesel powered equipment such as Front End Loaders, Backhoes, Landscaping Tractors, Road Rollers, Road Sweepers and other types of equipment associated with Roads and Trails Maintenance within the Presidio of San Francisco. Drive dump trucks and tractor-trailers hauling materials and transporting road equipment. Load materials into dump trucks, remove debris, and rough grade surfaces. Pick up, carry, haul, load, deliver, unload and stack various construction materials. Use a backhoe, dig holes for catch basins and culvert placements and uncovering utility pipes and lines. Use typical roads and trails equipment and tools such as asphalt tamper, picks, shovels, rakes, cement mixers, sledge hammers, air compressors, and generators. Use different sets and types of controls for operating equipment, trucks, and associated attachments, frequently handling several sets of controls at the same time, which requires good hand, foot, and eye coordination. Move and maneuver equipment and trucks in confined and congested areas. Repair potholes with hot mix asphalt and cold patch and construct new paved areas; paint curbs and roadway markings using paint brush, roller, and paint spray equipment; assist masons in mixing and pouring concrete; set concrete forms and remove rubble and debris; demolish concrete sidewalks, curbs and walls. Act as flagger/spotter on roadway work; set barricades, cones, and signage for worksite safety. Clear and brush trails; install water breaks, drains, culverts and retaining walls; repair washouts, damaged bridges (minor) and bridge abutments, fences, gates, and protective railing; and replace tread materials. Assist machine shop mechanic in servicing, fueling, and maintaining vehicles and equipment. Required Extensive equipment operating experience Knowledge of different equipment and materials, weight and applicable restrictions when hauling, loading or transporting, and height and width limitations and safety rules and regulations for each type of equipment operated. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, work orders, and procedure manuals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to work independently, largely without direct supervision. Must possess and maintain a valid, Class B Drivers License Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach to climb or balance, and lift or move up to 50 pounds. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibration, and moderate noise in the work environment. Desired Passion for working at the Presidio. Class B Drivers License. Experience working in historic buildings. Experience interacting with building occupants and tenants; excellent customer service skills. Experience working collaboratively with a diverse team.
