If so, the Department of Justice (DOJ), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Office of Science and Technology is seeking a high performing individual to serve as a Computer Scientist.

Notes:

  • This position is located in the Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Office of Science and Technology. The National Institute of Justice is the research, development and evaluation agency to the U. S. Department of Justice. It applies science to advance criminal justice policy and practice in the United States through a grant program that funds research in the social, physical, and forensic sciences to provide objectives knowledge and innovative tools to reduce crime and promote justice.

Duties:

  • Performs professional studies and investigations involving the theoretical foundations of computer science, and the algorithmic aspects of unorthodox and emerging computing paradigms, such as neural, DNA, molecular, and quantum computation. Applies or researches new computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transform or present information by means of computer systems.

    Investigates fundamental problems of computer architectural facets, such as pipeline and parallel processing; language theory, construction, and linguistics; artificial intelligence techniques and robotics; machine learning and statistics; quantum computation; collaborative systems design; networking and communications; human machine interface, data management and computer graphics; and software engineering.
  • Provides technical guidance to contractor or grantee counterparts on systems and documentation requirements, including problem reports and troubleshooting plans. Ensures contractor or grantee performs in accordance with established procedures and that product conforms to established specifications and requirements.
  • Reviews and evaluates technical literature, professional research, industry studies, or other analyses in computer science, computer engineering, and associated fields. Interprets and evaluates findings for use and applicability to programs, projects, and issues at hand.
  • Develops and maintains an interdisciplinary understanding of data systems, computer science, computer engineering, and related fields, practices and procedures. Reviews, monitors, and maintains requirements and specifications for assigned projects. Ensures conformance with agency requirements and standards.
