KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


Knowledge of quality management principles, concepts, techniques, and methods.

Knowledge of the concepts and theories of clinical nursing practices.

Ability to research, analyze, and prepare written quality management policies, reports and procedures.

MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Grade 4:


BASIC REQUIREMENTS


Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.


Registration: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.


One (1) year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-RESEARCH POSITIONS


In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-11.


Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.


ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR RESEARCH POSITIONS


In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicants must have had either specialized experience and/or directly related education in the amounts shown below. Education and experience may be combined to meet the total experience requirements.


1. The applicant must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree when the position involves primarily scientific inquiry or investigation, or research-type exploratory development of a creative or advanced scientific nature, where the knowledge required to perform the work successfully is typically and primarily acquired through graduate study.


OR


2. The applicant must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-11.


Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position such as: performing nurse duties with a focus on quality healthcare.

  • This is an Excepted Service Appointment. Initial appointments to the Peace Corps normally are for 30 months, but may be extended up to 5 years. Employees are paid on the Foreign Service pay scale and receive the same benefits as other Federal employees. A background security investigation will be required for all hires. Appointment will be subject to the successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

    Qualified internal applicants will receive first consideration.


Duties:

  • This position is located in the Office of Health Services (OHS), the Quality Improvement Unit (QI). OHS coordinates the overall Volunteer Health System which provides for the medical clearance of Peace Corps Volunteers while in-service, and management of medical needs of former Volunteers.
  • The incumbent is responsible for analyzing information/data and supporting the Quality Improvement unit and assists in the implementation of QI functions.
  • These functions include setting departmental standards and communicating agency standards, credentialing and privileging providers, program monitoring, and orientation and education of health care staff on technical guidance and Volunteer health care.
