  • The Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys (CSSBMB) has an immediate need for a Public Affairs Specialist. We are transforming for the future and we are looking for someone to direct the public affairs program activities, such as coordinating news and information media interviews, developing communication plans, coordinating agency information programs, evaluating agency public affairs programs. CSSBMB takes on matters pertaining to civil rights that affect the United States and its citizens. Notes:

  • The Office of Communications and Public Engagement is responsible for coordinating and creating opportunities for direct engagement between the Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys (CSSBMB) and the American public, to ensure that everyone can participate and inform the development of national civil rights policy. The Public Affairs Specialist serves the primary function of preparing and disseminating information through traditional and social media outlets on behalf of the Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys (CSSBMB). The incumbent will coordinate with news media in connection with Commission hearings and other activities and will serve as an information liaison with public and private groups. The incumbent will serve as an advisor to the Commissioners, the Staff Director and the Executive Staff on public information and public relations implications of the various Commission activities and programs. The Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of a communications strategy that informs and engages the general public.

    This vacancy announcement may be used to fill more than one vacancy for the Public Affairs position, up to one year.

Duties:

  • Performs work related to public affairs program activities, such as coordinating news and information media interviews, developing communication plans, coordinating agency information programs, evaluating agency public affairs programs, etc. Evaluates impacts and effectiveness of public affairs programs.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the general public, the news and information media, key officials, agency stakeholders, industry representatives, and/or community groups in order to communicate and disseminate program information which results in an understanding of the agency's mission and activities.
  • Prepares marketing, publicity, and promotional materials for agency seminars, programs, and events.
  • Tracks metrics and analyzes data to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of social media initiatives against organizational objectives.
  • Plans, implements, and/or manages social media efforts or social media/social networking programs.
  • Contributes to publications and reports. Selects and organizes materials written by others for publication, report, or analysis.
  • Develops, coordinates with, and maintains relationships with stakeholders in various levels of government, private industry, and/or academic institutions to communicate and disseminate information about program mission and activities.
