Duties:

  • CBO seeks a Deputy Assistant Director to help lead its Tax Analysis Division. That division is responsible for analyzing federal tax policy and formulating CBOs official 10-year projections of federal revenues. The division consists of about 16 analysts and 4 managers, most of whom have advanced degrees. The Deputy Assistant Director will assist in managing the divisionorganizing, supervising, and reviewing its work so that it produces high-quality, nonpartisan analyses. Responsibilities include coordinating, reviewing, and editing CBOs studies; communicating the results to key Congressional staff members and others at CBO; and working closely with Congressional staff to ensure that CBO provides analysis that will be useful to the Congress. The Deputy Assistant Director is also responsible for developing testimony for Congressional hearings; overseeing the preparation of the tax-related parts of several publications, including the agencys annual Budget and Economic Outlook ; reviewing studies prepared by other divisions in CBO; and reviewing written estimates of the effects of proposed legislation. The Deputy Assistant Director will also direct the divisions Tax Policy Studies Unit. The units main responsibilities are preparing studies that analyze the existing tax system and proposals to change it. The unit undertakes empirical research, develops economic models, and conducts economic analysis of the tax system to support the work of the Congress. For instance, some recent studies have examined the distribution of household income, the tax treatment of investment in intangible property, and tax and spending subsidies for higher education.
