Duties:

  • The Health Analyst for the Low-Income Health Programs and Prescription Drugs Cost Estimates Unit focuses primarily on federal health programs that operate through private markets for health insuranceincluding employment-based insurance plans and health insurance marketplaces established under the Affordable Care Act.
    The following are among the health analysts wide-ranging responsibilities:
    Work closely with Congressional staff during the development of federal health care policy;
    Prepare multiyear spending projections for federal health programs;
    Analyze the Administrations budget proposals; and
    Prepare cost estimates for legislation involving, for example, financing or delivery of health care, federal programs operating through private markets, federal regulation of health insurance coverage, and federal assistance to pay for insurance coverage.
    CBOs analysts work closely with key Congressional staff members as the Congress prepares its annual budget plans, considers the Presidents budget proposals, and evaluates the budgetary effects of legislation. Staff members often have significant involvement in budget and legislative processes.
