MINIMUM FEDERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Grade 13:


Qualifying experience for the GS-13 level includes one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-12 level. Specialized experience is experience that required substantial subject-matter or technical knowledge of the field. Specialized experience is defined as: coordinating the publication of information and materials; editing or writing statistically significant materials to non-technical audiences, such as policy makers, media, and the general public; applying agency style standards for written and graphic materials; and, conducting research analysis, and interpretation of information on a variety of subjects and developing technical materials for presentation.

Notes:

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Applicants will be considered under Delegated Examining and/or Merit Promotion procedures based upon eligibility.

Duties:

  • Reviews and edits statistical manuscripts for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with established principles and guidelines for presenting technical or statistical information.

    Writes or edits a range of technical materials, such as reports of research findings; scientific or technical articles, news releases, and periodicals; regulations in technical areas; or technical manuals, specifications, brochures, and pamphlets; speeches or scripts on scientific or technical subjects.
  • Performs a variety of editorial duties related to editorial production.

  • Collaborates with subject matter experts, researchers, web content managers and other writers to ensure that written material is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers, including Congress, Department officials, and the general public.

    Designs graphics and layout of written material and creates the necessary templates and outlines to assist writers and others in developing compliant material for release in various formats including print, multimedia, and social media, and online.
